Since the beginnings of Alaskan MAKER we have wanted to create products that last over time. Yes we do! We are makers and we prefer to repair, to clean and adjust rather than throw away. That's for that we have always made it a point of honour to create products that last, made of noble and robust materials: waxed canvas, real leather, zips and brass accessories. As you can see, at Alaskan we have banished the word "disposable" from our vocabulary as well as from our workshops. It is with this idea in mind to move more and more towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable products that we wanted to develop the Alaskan Maker Bee Wraps.
A Bee Wrap, what is it?
The Bee wrap is a concept brought up to date by a mother, Sarah Kaeck, in 2012, who was looking to banish disposable, non-green materials from her kitchen. She then set out to find an alternative to plastic film which, although very practical, is ultra-polluting, both for the planet and for our health!
By definition, a Bee wrap is a reusable packaging coated with beeswax. At Alaskan Maker we propose a GOTS* certified organic cotton fabric coated with beeswax, Jojoba oil and tree resin. Our set consists of 4 bee wraps:
✔ 1 Bee Wrap SIZE S (20x18cm)
✔ 2 Bee Wrap SIZE M (28x25.5cm)
✔ 1 Bee Wrap SIZE L (35x33.5cm)
3 sizes and 4 bee wraps to fit all your meals perfectly: from small bowls to large salad bowls! For more comfort, the set is completed by 4 elastics of different sizes (one small and 3 large) that fit perfectly to the 4 bee wraps. They will make it easier to keep the bee wrap on your meals or for your sandwiches when you are on the road.
The Bee Wrap Alaskan MAKER is a compostable & biodegradable product i.e. at the end of its life you can place it in the compost for it to decompose. To facilitate its degradation, cut out the bee wrap and place the pieces in the compost. An alternative : Zero waste to the end. Another tip? At the end of its life, the wax-coated bee wrap can also be used as a firelighter for your barbecues with friends!
In short, no more excuses, it's time to get rid of anything disposable in your kitchen such as aluminium, plastic film or cellophane. A study by the Food Packaging Forum organisation proves that plastic stretch film, when it comes into contact with food and especially when heated, can have a harmful impact on health. On the other hand, bee wrap is known for its anti-bacterial properties, which will allow better preservation of your food. A not insignificant plus! A small ecological gesture on a daily basis may seem trivial, but if there are several thousand of us doing it, it becomes a big ecological impact!
Designs inspired by the Great American North, the DNA of Alaskan Maker
As with the rest of our range, the designs of the Bee Wraps are inspired by the Great American North. The raw nature of the landscapes that make us travel and dream. An authentic style, the common thread of the Alaskan Maker product range.
But as usual, we are listening to our customers and our community. A few months ago, we asked you what your favourite design was, the team was struggling to decide so we called you for help.
And thanks to you, 1 design stood out from the rest. Our brand emblem, the design with the bear, was immediately appealing to you.
We promise you that this landscape is represented on one of the bee wraps of the set!
How to use it?
Packaging - Storage - Protection
The Bee wrap is designed to wrap, preserve and protect your food.

You wrap it up and put it in his bag.
Easy & practical to use!
- Wrap all your fruit and vegetables that are already cut (orange, apple, avocado etc...) Your bee wrap will fit the shape of the fruit or vegetable and the wax will allow the bee wrap to stay in place by remaining stuck. - The Bee Wrap can also be used to hold berries, red fruits or grapes. You can fold your Bee Wrap so that it forms a pocket that can hold these fruits in place for transport or to place them in the fridge/freezer. - The Bee Wrap is a great tool for wrapping and transporting food, for snacking or picnicking, wrap, fold and your sandwich will be well protected. - But its use doesn't stop at just one room in the house. Some indications for use :
For the first use, one step is necessary. Unfold your bee wrap - and after admiring the beautiful designs inspired by the Great American West - crumple it several times to make it more malleable and soften it.
Then, nothing could be simpler, each time you use it, to place the bee wrap on a dish, position and stretch the canvas on the dish in question and then apply a light pressure of ⅔ seconds on each side of the dish so that the warmth of your hands warms the wax and helps to keep the bee wrap flat. After this movement, if necessary, for a better adhesion you can, if necessary, use one of the elastics provided.
Some tips for a good use of the product
Always be careful to wait until your food to be preserved is cool before covering it, as the wax moves and evolves on the canvas with the heat.
You can put it, without any problem, in the fridge or freezer but not ATTENTION, the bee wrap does not withstand the heat of the oven or microwave.
Do not put your Bee Wrap in direct contact with raw meat or fish.
How to clean a bees wraps ?
In order for your bee wrap to be usable for as long as possible, it is important to take care of it. We estimate its life span at 12 months if it is well maintained.
For cleaning, nothing could be simpler, between 2 uses think about cleaning your bee wrap. Wash it by hand with a simple sponge and lukewarm/cold water. Avoid the washing machine or dishwasher. Hot water could melt and move the beeswax on the fabric. After washing it in clear water, wipe it off with a cloth and store it in a dry place in your kitchen (in a drawer for example).
Composition of the bee wraps
The organic cotton fabric is coated with beeswax, Jojoba oil and tree resin. The perfect combo for a good adhesion to your dishes and to guarantee a good hold when packaging your food.
The beeswax makes the fabric rigid, waterproof and antibacterial. Jojoba oil, on the other hand, is soft and supple when cold and therefore more malleable for placing or wrapping the coated fabric around a container. Jojoba oil also has antifungal and antimicrobial properties. The tree resin gives the fabric its sticky aspect which allows it to adhere to the dish and hold it around food.
You can without hesitation bring food into contact with the bee wrap, no taste or smell will spoil the packaged food. It is precisely the composition of your bee wrap (beeswax, Jojoba oil or tree resin) that will protect and preserve your food.
With all this, Alaskan Maker tends to always do more for the ecology, so in 2021 we have set ourselves the goal of stopping plastic packaging and replacing it with recyclable and reusable packaging.
Alaskan MAKER is also a proud member of 1% for the planet. It is a project of the heart carried by the whole team. So, as with the entire Alaskan Maker range, each product purchased contributes to the prize pool that is donated to finance environmental protection actions around the world.
